As care-givers we often get so focused on how much time we don’t have that we overlook the 15-30 minutes we do have when we aren’t being the grown-up. Listening to your favorite song or reading a poem that speaks to you are quick activities that can give you a recharge so that you can continue caring for your loved one and yourself.
Join GUEST Leader Shari Yarborough as she talks about 2 of her favorite poems that she learned long before becoming a family care-giver. Though they weren’t written for care-givers, they encourage readers to take the actions necessary for making this life role manageable.
Let’s share stories about how songs and poems and pictures make us feel so that we can remember we are whole people who need to be nurtured. At the end of the session, I’ll ask you to commit yourself a 15 minute recharge with your favorite art form at least once per week. In November, we’ll meet again to talk about what that has meant for you.
